RIP Dan Wheldon

I’m not sure if you know, but I love me some car races.  NASCAR is my favorite but I always watch the big races in the Indy Car Series like the Indianapolis 500 and the last race of the season, especially when 4.5 million bucks is on the line.

I was watching a race live yesterday (October 17th, 2011) from Las Vegas when I witnessed a crash that left me not only speechless but very emotional.  The sad result as most of you I’m sure know by now was the death of driver Dan Wheldon.

This is a driver who I knew (as a driver) and liked a lot.  I watched him on David Letterman and PTI and I just thought he was a cool dude.  Racing was suspended for 2 hours before an announcement was made on the condition of all the drivers including Dan Wheldon.  I was glued to the channel and could not turn it off and then came the sad words.

Dan Wheldon had died from the accident.  I felt sad, teary, emotional and just empty.  I did not know this guy, but like most people that have fame that you are a fan of, you kind of feel like you know him.  I also felt so sad for his family that were at the race.  he had a wife and two young sons that witnessed this accident and his death.

I really don’t have much more to say.  Be careful everybody, enjoy life and thank you for reading.

RIP Dan. Glad I got to watch you race.
